FOAM – Friends of Awa Matakana

Shape the Integrated Catchment Management Plan for Awa Matakanakana
What is important to you about the freshwater flowing from the Matakana hills by way of the
Matakana and Glen Eden/Waikumete rivers to Sandspit estuary and out to Kawau Bay?
Maybe you remember schools of fish teaming with tidal flows, or you want children to experience
the thrill of jumping into a swimming hole, or you want neighbourhoods that are safe from flooding.

The perspectives are endless, and to weave together social, economic, environmental, and cultural
threads into one strong, connected vision – Friends of Awa Matakanakana (FOAM) want you to have
a voice in the development of an Integrated Catchment Management Plan.

The strength of this plan depends on the whole community working together. FOAM have brought
together a small team to listen and empower, not to dictate or decide what the community wants.
In the coming months, we need you to participate in public workshops and/or have your say online;
whether you are a business owner, work within the primary industry sector, belong to a community
organisation or simply want clean water and flourishing ecosystems for generations to come.

The outcome will be a publicly accessible online resource with information about the catchment;
land, water, biodiversity, and tangible actions to achieve the things individuals and communities
most treasure.

Every perspective matters. If you care about the catchment, you belong in this conversation.
