The Mahurangi Trail Society is a group of local residents working on establishing walking and cycling trails in the Mahurangi area. They aim to connect local communities, including Snells Beach to Warkworth, to Sandspit, to Matakana, and beyond

The society has completed its first successful trail section and is looking for members to get involved

To join the Mahurangi Trail Society, you can fill out their application form on their website. The society has a nominal membership fee to cover administrative costs

They have several trail projects underway, including the Matakana to Omaha trail, which will be re-aligned to improve its overall grade and safety for novice riders and families

The Mahurangi Coastal Trail is a proposed trail that will commence north of Auckland and route along the Te Muri ridgeline, providing a non-urban section of the national walkway

The trail is still in the planning stages, and its fate is uncertain due to revised plans from Watercare for the access road to the treatment plant
