The Donkeys at Highfield Reserve
The donkeys are living at the Highfield Reserve, along the Mahurangi East Road, just at the Snells Beach / Algies Bay boundary. Take the opportunity yourself or with your children and grandchildren to go and take a look, both at the view, the reserve and the donkeys themselves.
Highfield Donkeys Incorporated Society
The Society looks after the donkeys and their environment. The generosity of members through donations, materials and time have established a partnership for management of the donkeys along with the Advisory Committee at Highfield and Auckland Council. A Memorandum of Understanding is in place with Auckland Council. Work goes on to enhance the area occupied by the donkeys and ensure their security and well being.
News at December 2016: Peter Caccia- Birch, Donkey Manager :
A big thank you Anna, Mildred, Alan and so many other members who live distant to our area and who still support the gifts of Highfield and the Donkeys that Ted & Alison Roberts gave to our Community. Their membership along with memberships from our Community are so important for the welfare of the donkeys, it also gives encouragement to those who tackle the work involved. As well, membership numbers help strengthen the Committees position when they approach the Council for help with the care of the donkeys and also and in keeping the donkeys on the Reserve.
Thanks for the carrots, silverbeet and apples and thanks too for staying safe round us, as well as for latching the gates, remember we can be a bit wild!
Truffle, Tansy, Toby, Tina, Tara, Turvey and Topsy.
Peter Caccia-Birch. Chair, Highfield Garden Reserve Advisory Committee and Donkey Manager.
